Our view of Autistic Spectrum Disorders

ASD is not a single disorder or a single aetiology, but we believe ASD is a treatable condition, where measurable improvement can be demonstrated. But no one child is the same; each one has his or her biochemical individuality. For that reason a multi therapeutic approach is recommended. Joined up treatment is imperative, with each treatment individual and tailored to the needs of the child.

Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) is the umbrella term given to a range of conditions including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, OCD, Aspergers, Autism and Tourette’s Syndrome. What they all have in common is that the child experiences learning difficulties.

They are labels which define a series of mental, physical and emotional symptoms, all with an underlying condition: developmental delay. All learning difficulties are caused by a problem in the development of the brain and as many as 1 in 5 children have learning difficulties. It is common for children to experience more than one symptom and no child shows exactly the same symptoms.

The medical causes for ASD are not fully understood, but it seems thay may be caused by such things as evolutionary development, medical intervention, or immaturity at birth, either in the brain & nerve tract development, or through gut weakness, poor nutrition, drug intervention suppressing immune function or vaccination.
